SendGrid Integration Setup

This guide explains how to connect SendGrid to UChat so you can send and receive email inside Live Chat (two-way email). You will create a SendGrid API key, authenticate your sending domain, connect UChat, and set up Inbound Parse so replies come back into UChat.

What you will need

In UChat, open Integrations → Email Marketing → SendGrid. The integration screen asks for four values: API Key, Sender Name, Sender Email and Receiving Domain. There is also an optional Forward to url field (forwards the webhook logs to a URL you provide) and a Webhook Logs tab.

UChat → Integrations → Email Marketing → SendGrid.

Part 1 — Create the API Key in SendGrid

Step 1. In SendGrid, go to Settings → API Keys and click Create API Key.

Settings → API Keys → Create API Key.

Step 2. Give the key a name and choose the access level. The options are Full Access, Custom Access and Billing Access. For two-way email choose Full Access — it grants the Mail Send permission UChat needs. If you prefer to restrict the key, choose Custom Access and grant full “Mail Send” access.

Creating the API Key. Full Access is recommended for two-way email.

Step 3. Click Create & View. SendGrid shows the key only once — copy it and keep it somewhere safe; you will paste it into UChat.

Part 2 — Authenticate your sending domain

Open Settings → Sender Authentication. You can authenticate a whole domain (recommended, and marked RECOMMENDED) or verify a single sender address.

Settings → Sender Authentication.

Domain Authentication

Step 1. Under Domain Authentication click Get Started. Choose your DNS host from the dropdown, decide whether to brand the links, and click Next.

Choose the DNS host and the branded-links option, then Next.

Step 2. Enter the domain you send from and click Next.

Enter the sending domain (here: acelerador.pro).

Step 3. SendGrid shows the DNS records to install. The screen has three tabs — Automatic Setup, Manual Setup and Send To A Coworker. The record set is three CNAME records plus a DMARC TXT record (host _dmarc, value “v=DMARC1; p=none;”).

Install DNS Records.

The full record set, including the DMARC TXT record.

Step 4. Add every record to your DNS provider.

On Cloudflare: Set the three CNAME records to “DNS only” (grey cloud). If they are proxied (orange cloud), the verification will fail. Add the DMARC TXT record as well.

The SendGrid records in Cloudflare, all set to “DNS only”.

Step 5. Back in SendGrid, tick “I’ve added these records” and click Verify. When it passes, you see the confirmation screen.

“It worked! Your authenticated domain … was verified.”

Single Sender Verification (alternative)

If you prefer not to authenticate a whole domain, verify a single address instead: click Verify an Address → Create New Sender and fill in the details.

Good to know: If the domain is already authenticated, any sender address on that domain is verified automatically — SendGrid shows “Your sender … has been automatically verified because it matches an authenticated domain.”

A single sender on an authenticated domain is auto-verified.

Part 3 — Connect UChat to SendGrid

Step 1. Back on the UChat SendGrid screen, fill in the API Key, Sender Name, Sender Email (an address on your authenticated domain) and Receiving Domain, then click Save.

Step 2. When the integration is valid, UChat shows “Verified” and generates a Webhook URL. You will paste this URL into SendGrid’s Inbound Parse next. Keep the webhook URL private.

After Save: status “Verified” and a generated Webhook URL (hidden here for security).

Part 4 — Set up Inbound Parse (to receive replies)

Step 1. In SendGrid, open Settings → Inbound Parse and click Add Host & URL.

Settings → Inbound Parse → Add Host & URL.

Step 2. Fill in the Receiving Domain — a Subdomain plus your authenticated Domain (only authenticated domains can be used) — and paste the UChat Webhook URL into Destination URL. Enabling the two options (spam check and “POST the raw, full MIME message”) is recommended.

image-20260802-165444.png

Add Host & URL: Subdomain + Domain, Destination URL, and the two recommended options.

Important: Use a dedicated subdomain for this (for example parse.yourdomain.com), not your domain’s main mail records. For the subdomain to actually receive email it needs an MX record pointing to mx.sendgrid.net (priority 10). UChat puts this subdomain in the Reply-To of every Live Chat email, so customer replies are delivered here and picked up by Inbound Parse.

The Inbound Parse host added (Spam Check and Send Raw enabled). Webhook URL hidden for security.

The MX record for the parse subdomain → mx.sendgrid.net, added in the DNS provider.

Step 3. Return to UChat and click Save again so everything takes effect. Two-way email is now set up, see the companion article, “How to Use 2-Way Email Syncing.”

Heres a video walkthrough of it.
